Principal of Bronx Theatre High School

Who am I? I am Afro Caribbean. I am a woman. I am an educator. I am a sister. I am an aunt. I am a LEADER!

Shoundel McIntosh is currently the principal of Bronx Theatre High School, located on the John F. Kennedy Campus. She was born in Guyana, South America but New York has been her home since emigrating at the age of ten. The education of youths has been her mission and passion. Although her roots in education began with teaching developmentally disabled adults, 25 of her 27 years in education has been in secondary education (grades 9-12).

As a pedagogue, Ms. McIntosh has taught Health, Biology, Earth Science, Psychology, Aerobics, Environmental Science and Epidemiology. Her Epidemiology curriculum was also certified as a NYC Department of Education College Prep Course. In addition, Ms. Mcintosh has been a Dean, Coordinator of Student Affairs and was an Assistant Principal for 9 years. She received the distinction of Teacher of the Year in 2002.

Ms. Mcintosh holds a Bachelor of Science in Community Health Education and Biology, an M.S. in Science Education and an M.A. in School Administration and Supervision.

Being Afro-Caribbean has provided her with an inter-sectional view of the inequities Black and Brown students continue to face. Her goal as an educational leader and an agent of change is to be purposeful in guiding the trajectory of urban education by empowering and training children and teachers to assume leadership roles within and outside the classroom.

Bronx Theatre High School

is recognized for excellence in education through collaboration and promotion of a positive school culture.
